Resources

The following are a few online resources which we use when we are planning our trip. These resources vary from accommodation websites to cheap flight air fares, travel gear and gadgets to our favorite books and movies.

Accommodation

booking Booking.com is by far our favorite website for accommodation. It is easy to use and has basically everything from hostels, to guest houses to hotels. The free cancellation option is helpful when in doubt which accommodation to book.
agoda Agoda.com is also one of our favorite lodging sites. However, Agoda.com focuses more on Asian countries. Agoda.com is also quite easy to use and we highly suggest it for those travelling around Asia.
hotels-com Hotels.com is an all rounder and has the same concept of the websites above. There are some cool features in Hotels.com like travel guides and the function to view all hotels in a directory kind of view.
hostelworld Hostelworld.com specializes in hostels. Hostelworld.com is the all time backpackers favorite website as it gives you the opportunity to meet travelers like you from around the world.
airbnb Airbnb has quite a cool concept. On Airbnb, one has the possibility to stay at someone’s place. You can either stay with the owner or else have the place for yourself. This idea is perfect for those home/apartment owners who would like to rent their place and share it with other travelers.
couchsurfing Couchsurfing has the same ideology of Airbnb. However, believe it or not, home/apartment owners share their place for free! This is perfect for low budget travelers who want to meet with other travelers to share their travelling stories etc.
TravelPony.com is a new hotel booking website with deals and prices that are often 10-50% below the big travel sites. At TravelPony.com, when customers are willing to share a post on social media when they book a hotel room, they unlock a “social discount” that takes between 10-50% off of the price of their stay.

Flights

Skyscanner is a straightforward website that gives you the lowest fares possible which are available on the market at that particular point in time. Some cool features which this website has are that one can browse all month to see which dates have the lowest prices and also one can view all the lowest fares for several countries.
momondo is also a search engine for cheap airfares. The difference from Skyscanner is mainly the different airlines the website searches. However, we use this website in parallel with Skyscanner to cross-check airline prices.
Kayak has the same functionality as momondo and Skyscanner with the addition feature that you can visually see the airports mapped on a world map to have a better idea and better understanding of airports.
expedia Expedia can be used to book airline tickets, hotel reservations, car rentals, cruises, vacation packages and various attractions and services.

Travel Advice

tripadvisor Tripadvisor is another great website with several features. We use it mainly to check out the nearest attractions and make sure we don’t miss out anything. Other features include restaurant and lodging reviews. Lodging bookings are also possible from TripAdvisor.com

Travel Guides

These are a few travel guides that helped us with our travels. We highly suggest Lonely Planet guides because they are fairly easy to use and understand. They are also cheap and available on either paperback or as an e-book.
