Thank you for visiting Surface Nomads. We are Maria and Daniel, a couple from the Island of Malta and founders of Surface Nomads. In 2016 we realized that the 9 to 5 routine is not for us and decided to hit the reset button. We packed our stuff, quit our jobs, said our goodbyes and got a one way ticket to Morocco. Since then, we are still on the road and enjoying every second of it.
That’s when Surface Nomads was born. The idea behind Surface Nomads was to have a personal travel journal were we could share our stories with family and friends. Since then, the website evolved into a portfolio where we showcase our photographic journey.

We love traveling in general (of course) and our desire is to see everything. When we’re on the road there are a few things we look out for. We love the outdoors and have a passion for trekking, hiking and camping, away from the hustle and bustle of cities. We love food and must admit that sometimes we end up staying in the same place for a couple of more days simply to keep going to that hole-in-the-wall restaurant with amazing authentic local food. Culture is another thing we look out for. We consider ourselves ‘Slow Travelers’ and the good thing about slow traveling is that you get to live as a local and make that connection with local culture. Last but not least, we love beaches. We could easily spend a whole day swimming and soaking up the sun (and eating!)
